Having kids nowadays is really hectic; it was much more different when we were kids. I don't think my mom ever bothered how we would be entertained throughout the summer vacation. The maximum she would do is to plan a 10 days trip to any coastal city and that's all. Not before I was almost 14 years old that I started to take extra curriculum summer courses when I was able to go by myself.
Today's kids need to be entertained all the time, even during school time. I am not sure whether this is better or worse but that remains the fact. All the time I am thinking where to send them in summer; what type of camps? which sport they should play? whether to add arts to that? and I literary have a schedule on my wall at work and everything has to fit in there.
It's sometimes overwhelming to working moms like me that you want to give your kids all these chances yet you are pushing yourself to the edge. You run from dropping the kids to the summer school to work then back to pick them up trying in between to be as efficient as everyone else in less time. Yo run from the summer camp to the sports school or arts or languages or whatever.
You definitely come home exhausted and if you are a bit pampered you will not have to cook dinner or next day's lunch.
I do believe that the best investment you can do to your kids is investing in them, but I keep asking myself am I right? will all this running help them be better people? One can only wish.
